GREG: Oh, I know that. Everything imaginable has happened with people coming up and commenting. One guy said I live in Alaska, thank you for making porno movies. I get recognized driving in the car and I had never intended on that happening at all. I just did it for the money nd I thought no one would see them. I'm a survivor 'cause I'm still alive and healthy. Actually I look better now than I did then. My face has matured, back then I looked like a geeky little kid. I'm 35 but some people guess my age anywhere from 25 to 30. OUTCOME: Why don't you give us some background on where you were born
and grew up. GREG: I was born and raised in Los Angeles, an upper middle class family in Sherman Oaks Hills (in the area of Benedict Canyon/Beverly Hills.) I don't know if you are familiar but it's a wealthy type area. I went to catholic grammar school and High School and grew up around celebrities and their children. OUTCOME: It's interesting just how many people went to catholic school then went into porn. GREG: Yeah! I graduated High School in '73 and worked for Bullock's for 3 years. OUTCOME: Did you do any acting in school ? GREG: No. What happened is I got involved with the Hollywood party circuit '72-'73ish. I was young and naive and I was on a whirlwind. I was meeting movie stars. People were after me and I thought they were all friends but they were after me for just, you know. I grew up naive kind of in the 50s, 60s whatever. I worked for manager/producer Allan C. for about a month. We didn't have sex. I was like his assistant and he wasn't paying me. He said this is all part of your training. I was just being used. What happened was I was taking back to their home these callboys that he was seeing. I was having fun meeting celebrities but even my parents said you should be getting paid. I was in fact working. Anyway I started driving these guys back home and they said I just made $500.00 etc. I said oh really! Then I asked Allan and he told me he couldn't afford to pay me. So I told him I needed to be paid. If he wasn't going to pay me than I was going to become a callboy just like all the people I'm driving home. He basically said I dare you. He thought I was Jewish, which many people assume though I'm not. He said a nice Jewish boy like you wouldn't hustle. So he dared me. So I answered an ad. as I recall, in the Advocate. "Models needed for legit movies." It turned out to be Centaur Productions, an escort service. I started being a callboy, living at home telling my parents I was working for a caterer and started doing that. I was very lucky, basically they were local calls, Hollywood Hills-Beverly Hills area. OUTCOME: How did you go from 3-D work to the silver screen? GREG: To be honest I don't remember how I got connected to films. I think I answered another ad saying models needed. This is going back 15 years, models needed for movies. It turned out to be William Scheffler and the movies were porno loops (8mm films). The first movies I made I was paid $75 and they were loops that were also made into magazines.
GREG: I don't think that when I started it was NOVA yet or if it was I just didn't know it. All I know is we shot the loops, it was hard work or what I considered. But I thought hell, the first one I made $75. They shot it then they did stills. We had to go back and redo it. I did about 20 of those. OUTCOME: Do you remember what the first one was or who else was in it or any details? GREG: No, to be very honest some of the guys they just picked up right off the street, like if someone didn't show up. To me that was good money, $75 per day. My name was just passed on to show up at a certain time and told what to wear and I did it. I drove my Dad's Cadillac and I told them I was doing work at a catering job because I still lived at home. The really big movie was "The Idol" (1978) with Tom DeSimone. That movie is considered a classic. Tom DeSimone makes major motion pictures and porno movies. He had a script, a rehearsal & extras. He held to a dialog. He was wonderful! It was made in 3 days, Friday through Sunday. From '80 to '85 I had a limousine service. My Dad bought me a limousine and I used to rent that out, I was the chauffeur. I remember showing up for porn movies in this limo and people wondered how I was pulling that off. OUTCOME: It's unusual for someone doing porn films to have a regular type job & be a stable person. Too many are flakes who are lazy & earn their living as hustlers and burn out fast. GREG: Well I wasn't a street person. I grew up in a nice
neighborhood. My family had been told by then and even high school friends knew what I OUTCOME: What was the reaction? GREG: It was 2-3 years after I got out of high school and they didn't like it at all. Or they were gossipy, whatever. But I didn't care what they thought anyway, and still don't. OUTCOME: What do you think your overall experience in doing erotic material has been, the effect on your life? Was it a good experience or... GREG: Oh yeah, people have come up & told me they've fantasized about being in a movie themselves. In fact I made a few home videos with people, tricks, & got paid because they wanted to see themselves on video with me. These weren't for release these were just home movies but it fulfilled a fantasy. OUTCOME: There are a lot of people who have that fantasy including major motion picture stars Rob Lowe is not unique. GREG: There are a lot of motion picture stars who have done porno movies. OUTCOME: Right, since you've been through several periods in the business, can you make some comparisons or observations on the business?
