At 700+ pages David Leddick's wonderful photo book still misses
representation by a number of great photographers/studios. What
he does cover in this epic presentation is wonderful and what he doesn't do - as most
books of this
type continue doing - is present the great George Platt Lynes & shit eating hustler
mapplethorpe as the be all & end all of male
nude photography. You'll only find one Lon of N.Y., no Champion - Milo - Lyric -Plato -
Jock of South Africa - J. Brian - Mel Roberts - etc. etc. etc.
You will find artists you might not have heard of & see some outstanding images.
Divided into eras: "The Nineteenth Century", "1900-1920",
"1920-1940", "1940-1960", "1960-1980", "1980 to the
Present". Excellent overview of our area of art, long overlooked by the
right-wing bigotry of the establishment.
